Auxiliary Ad

Stock, thanks for the advertising. In addition to my other privately listed online dating service ads I've been getting lots of "hits." Unfortunately, I haven't been able to turn my internet traffic into actual calculus lessons - if you know what I mean. So for all you gals out in the state of Illinois, if you see me out and about this weekend, please don't be shy. Squirrel and I are headed to the old man's territory. From the sounds of it, Steve's had some lively weekends lately. Hopefully he can continue his streak, while I'll try to avoid any cement tasting this time.
By the way, we will be having our picture put on the virtual wall of champions. I still haven't heard any feedback on which picture is preferred. The one from the ESPY awards?

Missing Brazil

I spoke with my host family over the weekend - being that it's been about a year ago that I was down there. I find myself thinking a great deal about my time spent down there and how I wish I would have applied myself a little more. Anyway, it was a great weekend here in terms of weather, but my host dad was complaining about the heat. That I don't miss. And here's what Marilena meant when she said "stay away from that hell"

Stock's Idea of a good time

Sorry Jeff. But before you take out your kicks on me, let me just update you to a situation I was alerted to by some of our fans. It was commented on the site that we have not been recognized for our acheivements. In particular, the Idylwild Oldtimers have not been mentioned, spoken of, referred to, or referenced in any manner on the University of Nebraska - Lincoln intramural sports website. This is an outrage my friends and fellow countrymen. In order to rectify this situation I have petitioned this man to immediately sanction the posting of an Idylwild Oldtimer picture on the electronic WALL OF CHAMPIONS. I suggest that Stock and Backemeyer direct their anger toward him if the situation is not rectified in the next 10 days. In the mean time, please offer your suggestions on which Idylwild Oldtimer photo would best represent our champion qualities.

Well-Dressed Champions in Every Field

Boy, we sure do look sharp. I think we should get tuxes for the ESPY Awards this year.

Now, a poem

My name is Luke, I'm here to say
I miss that place in an awful way
I like my salsa hot not mild
The place I speak of is Idylwild

Now I live there no more
And though my life is quite a bore
I'm really only bytes away
From that great place where we did stay

And now I type from one and all
A great big thanks to our friend Paul
You've done just great with this new blog
Did Keely see your healthy hog?

So am I actually posting?

Hello fellow champions:
First and foremost I would like to say that I hope this message is being posted. If nothing else, it will get Demmel of my back as well. Mitch, I feel your pain. I also noticed that this blog may not be used for advertising, which I hadn't planed on or, and this is where I ran into trouble, "excessive self-promotion". Basically all that I planned on using this blog for was to promote myself. In fact, I just did it. I have been promoted to CEO, president, founder (I realize that normally the founder is not an appointed position but today it is, sorry Paul) and King and supreme ruler of everything that is Idylwild.
I will be collecting Idylwild dues on the first of each month. Please make checks payable to Luke Francis, in the amount of $100. Mitch, since I owe you some money you don't have to pay for the first month.
Thank you for your time.
Luke

Weddings

Thanks for the number Jeff. Francis, I'm having second thoughts about your vacation wedding idea. Who would I harrass?

Here's a puzzle: A checkerboard may be covered with "dominos" which each cover two squares of the board. Now you cut out two opposite corners of the board. Can the board still be covered with "dominos?"

Fine Then...

I checked the blog today (after receiving Paul's email promising his phone number if we posted something) and was surprised to see that someone had responded to one of Paul's posts. But it turned out to just be someone trying to sucker Paul into buying one of their products. I knew better than to think you guys would have succombed to his bullying. Well, I am finally posting something, mainly to get Paul off my back. Today, Labor Day, was an interesting day in history:

Of interest to Paul:
3114 B.C.E. - From this day was reckoned the Mayan Long Count end-of-the-world date: December 21, 2012. Happy 33rd birthday to my sister Suzanne. I figure this is a win-win for everyone but Paul. If the world does end here, we don't have to listen to Paul gloat about how he tried to remind us that it was coming. And if it doesn't end here, we can finally convince Paul to quit being such a doomsayer.

Of interest to the Lukes:
1957 - Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" was published.
And, the first Labor Day parade was held on this day in 1882; it was started by a union leader. There was a parade here in Urbana consisting of about 40 unions, 3 marching bands, and as usual, the pesky Shriners. The way I see it, if the union workers are going to go marching around on their day off, they might as well not get the day off next year.

And for Luke F.:
2001 - Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants set a new mark for home runs in a single season, hitting his 71st and 72nd.

Well that's all for my first post. I'll put some pics of my apartment up soon. Oh, and I'm supposed to tell the story of how we took the honeymooners' bag. Well, I had set my bags by Jeff's back door, and Demmel decided to help me load them. Unfortunately Jeff plans ahead more than we do, and he had also placed a black bag by his back door that he planned on taking on his honeymoon because they were leaving early the next morning for a 6:00 a.m. flight. So Demmel loaded an extra bag that he thought was mine, and I thought it was his bag, and we got a phone call from a distressed Jeff about four hours later. Sorry about that Jeff. It should be back in Nebraska by now. Hopefully it didn't put too big of a damper on your honeymoon. Well, that's all for now. Peace.

Went Running

Just got back from a little Sunday afternoon run. I went north this time - north of the tracks, a little darker neighborhood. A door to an apartment read "Private Property, Ty, you will go to Jail!" Then I passed a family BBQ and get together. I guess my families don't typically have music in the background, but certainly not the rap beats I heard here. I was greeted with big smiles and hi's from the porch full of women.

Classes are started, I haven't opened a book since they haven't arrived from Amazon.com. I'll probably be behind before the first homework is due, but what's new? As for the post, if you can't figure it out - hit the Iblogger button down and to the right. Then login, create a post and publish. It's that easy. Late.
